Kittens & Porn , 2011 Hand bound silver gelatin prints with watercolor and ink.          Kittens & Porn (2011) is an analog representation of a digital experience. Domestic spaces, pornographic websites, mass-media imagery, and baby kittens meld into an incoherent mapping of Internet consumption exposed just long enough for echoes of thought to be extracted. The trading-card sized silver gelatin prints of computer screens, pop cultural references, and scenes from the barrio utilize hashtags, Internet language, and mimetic tropes to explore new communal languages and notions of the cultural self.          Street vernacular was standard growing up in Stockton California, called the nation’s most miserable city to live in by Forbes in 2011. The parallel codes of street slang and Internet communication were the indexes used to explore language in Kittens and Porn to imbue meaning through attitude. Intersectional oppressions, reflections of mi pueblo , and the politics behind urban neighborhoods begin to reveal the larger issues within the intimate scope of the narrative “selfie.” The every-day imagery is familiar but the text is flippant and fragmented, like a screen capture of an online conversation in which the viewer was never involved. The frenetic mixture of content investigates a contemporary mode of existence that is captured only for a moment, and then allowed to resume its frenzied motion.
